International Islamic University is one of the well-known private
universities in Bangladesh located at College Road, Chittagong. The nickname of the University is
IIUC.
About International Islamic University Chittagong
The university was established by Islamic
University Chittagong Trust (IUCT). The trust is a nonprofit organization approved by Bangladesh Government. The University officially started its operation on February 11, 1995. In the year 200, the University was upgraded to International Islamic University. In the year 2004, the University was ranked as one of the top 9 private universities by University Grant Commission. At present, there are 370 teachers and instructors in this university where 270 teachers are full-time, and 100 teachers are adjunct. Currently, about 14,000 students from home and abroad studying in this university. The university has been expanding in various aspects every year. The university is approved according to the private university act 1992 amended in 1998 and 2010.
Subjects and Departments
At present, there are five faculties in the university. They are Shariah and Islamic Studies, Science and Engineering, Arts and Humanities, Business Studies, and Faculty of Laws. Quranic Science and Islamic Studies, Dawah, and Hadith are taught in the Shariah and Islamic Studies department. Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication are taught in the Science and Engineering Department. English Language and Arabic Language are taught in the Arts faculty. Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, and HRM are taught in the Business faculty.
Facilities Available for the Students
The university has the largest library in the Bangladesh among all the private universities. The library was established in the year 1995 and contains over 1, 44,759 books. The library is well arranged and monitored by CCTV camera. The university has 11 hostels for both male and female students. The university has a large campus. There is both indoor and outdoor gaming facility for male and female students. There are also separate prayer rooms for the male and female students. The canteen of this university is very hygienic and provides quality foods to the students.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
The university admits new undergraduate students every year. The students must meet the following criterion to be able to get admitted to this university:
- The candidates must have combined GPA 6.00 in HSC and SSC or equivalent examination with minimum GPA 2.5 in both the examinations.
- For the children of freedom fighters, minimum required combined GPA 5.00 is required in SSC and HSC or equivalent.
- The O-level students must have 5 subjects and minimum B grade for admission. The A-level students must have 2 major subjects and minimum C grade in these subjects.
