About Chittagong Govt College
The college started its journey as a school named Chittagong District School in the year 1836. It was transformed into an intermediate college in the year 1869. J C Bose was the first principal of Chittagong College. The college played a vital role in inaugurating combined education of male and female students. In the year 1910, the college got recognition as a Graduation college from University of Calcutta. Since, the establishment of the college, it has been playing a very crucial role in the development of the education sector of Chittagong district.
Subjects and Departments
From 1910, the college started to provide Honors degrees on Arabic, Bengali, Pali, History, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. In the year 1919, the college included English, Economics, and Philosophy departments. For higher secondary level education, the college provides education in Science, Business, and Humanities.
Facilities Available for the Students
It has a residential hall for the students. The name of the building is Sher-E-Bangla Chattrabas. The college has a tremendous library with 60000 books and journals. Besides these, the college has a mosque for prayer and an auditorium where various seminars and workshops take place. The college has a modern computer and science lab with all the up to date technologies. It has also started to teach foreign language and inclusive arts to the students. The college also has an online library for the students.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
For admitting HSC level student, the college gives a circular in the important and widely read daily newspapers after the publication of the result of secondary certificate examination.
The college provides all the requirements for admission in the admission circular and the candidates having the given qualifications are allowed to apply. The college may take a test or admit the students based on their GPA obtained in SSC exam result.
For admitting the graduation level students, the college follows the rules and regulations of National University. In this case, the college considers the result of both SSC and HSC for admission.
