Govt Home Economics College is one of the renowned educational institutions in Bangladesh located in Azimpur, Dhaka-1205.
History and Background
The college was established in the year 1961 with joint collaboration of East Pakistan government, American Ford Foundation and Oklahoma State University. The operation of the college started in the building of Eden College but later it shifted to its own premises. In the year 1963, the college turned into a post graduate college. The college has a campus in 10.3 acres land. It has about 3000 students enrolled in various subjects and departments.
Subjects and Departments
The college provides education in various levels including HSC, B.Sc (Hons), and M.S. There are five honors departments. The courses are regulated by the Biological Science Faculty of University of Dhaka.
Facilities Available for the Students
There are 5 seminar rooms and 8 laboratories in the college. It has a very big library with thousands of books. There is organized sitting arrangement for the students in the library. It has 3 hostels for the students with all kinds of facilities. There is a beautiful cafeteria where the students can pass time before and after the class and also have hygienic snacks.
Admission Procedure and Eligibility
As the college offers both HSC level and Graduation level students, the colleges have different set up to admit students in different level. For admitting HSC level students the college follows the direction of Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of Bangladesh. For admission of graduation level students the rules determined by University of Dhaka is followed. Every year the college enrolls new students.
For admission in graduation level the students must have GPA 4.00 in SSC or HSC and GPA not below 2.00 in any of the two examinations.
The students have to sit for a multiple choice questions test which one hour long. The full mark of the examination is 120 and the pass mark is 48.
The students have to collect admission form for the admission office by paying 500 tk. However, the students may also apply online through the official website of the college.
