Shikder Medical College and Hospital Dhaka Admission Procedure

Shikder Medical College and Hospital Dhaka is a private medical college. The full name is Zainul Haque Sikder Women's Medical College and Hospital. It was established in 1992 with permission from the government of Bangladesh.

About Shikder Medical College

The college campus is situated at Monica Estate, Rayer Bazar, on the western side of Dhanmondi. The college sits on 20 bighas of land. The total area exceeds 450,000 sq ft. It lies about one kilometer west of Satmaszid Road or Zigatola Road. Dhaka University affiliates the Medical College. The Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and WHO also recognize the college.

Since its establishment, the management has worked continuously to develop the institution as a center of excellence in medical education. They take innovative approaches for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Alongside conventional departments essential for undergraduate medical education, a Cardiac Care and Research Centre has been added. This center offers facilities for Cardiothoracic Surgery and Interventional Cardiology. Founder Chairman Mr. Z.H. Sikder established these specialties at a significant cost. These facilities provide wide-ranging exposure and training for students and doctors. By the time students graduate, they gain familiarity with modern advances in medical science and technology.

For diagnostic services, the Department of Radiology and Imaging uses modern equipment. They perform routine radiological investigations including CT angiogram, Mammography, Ultrasonography, CT Scan, and Ultra Modern MRI. The Cath-lab in the Department of Invasive Cardiology performs Coronary Angiograms with skilled cardiologists from home and abroad. Echocardiography, Exercise Tolerance Test, and other noninvasive procedures are performed routinely. The Department of Biochemistry uses autoanalyzers and sophisticated equipment for individual tests. Specially trained human resources work in this department.

Every year after HSC results are published, the college offers admission into the first-year MBBS class. A new session typically commences in January each year. The college publishes admission advertisements in national newspapers and on its official website. DGHS handles all MBBS medical admission procedures.

About the Founder

Mr. Zainul Haque Sikder is the founder of Zainul Haque Sikder Women's Medical College and Hospital. He is a well-known personality in Bangladesh. Mr. Sikder contributed immensely to various fields, particularly in Construction, Real Estate, Industries, and Banking.

He established Zarina Sikder High School and College for girls' education in the name of his mother in Dhaka. He also founded numerous mosques, madrasahs, and charitable dispensaries. These represent his profound interest in education and philanthropy in Bangladesh. The establishment of Z.H. Sikder Women's Medical College with its 500-bed teaching hospital demonstrates his pioneering role in advancing female education in Bangladesh.

History

The Medical College and Hospital is approaching its 20th year of operation. Significant developments have occurred in infrastructure, staff selection, and departmental organization to meet the needs of students. The first batch of students appeared in the Final Professional MBBS Examination in January 1998, with entirely satisfactory results. The academic achievements of students across different batches in University Professional MBBS Examinations have been praiseworthy.

For accommodation, all international students and 50% of local students receive hostel seats each year. The authority encourages student participation in extracurricular activities including indoor games, college journal publication, debating, seminars, annual college picnics, dramas, and TV programs to balance their academic schedules.

New Branch:
The new branch of ZH Sikder Women's Medical College and Hospital is located behind Wonderland Park near Gulshan. It occupies a 60,000 square feet, 6-story fully air-conditioned building. This center specializes in cardiac care treatment and preventive care.
