It is founded on 20 December 1993 and commenced operations on 16 November 1996. Two letter IATA code is AK. The main hub is Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Secondary hub is Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Headquarters is Sepang, Selangor, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It operates domestic and international flights. The airline has a sale office in Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Thailand. Presently they do operate a flight from Dhaka airport in Bangladesh. It has started flights from Dhaka to Kuala Lumpur on July 11 after four years suspended.
Presently AirAsia and East-West Airline have started the aviation business jointly. They operate domestic and international flights in Bangladesh. East-West Airline is a sister concern of Orion Group. It has already got Provisional Air Transport Operating Licence from Bangladesh civil aviation authority.
