About Dhakeshwari Mandir

The temple was established by a king of the Sena Dynasty, named Ballal Sen. It is considered one of the precious cultural heritage of Bangladesh. Many researchers say that the temple is one of the Shakti Peethas, where the jewel from the crown of the Goddess had fallen. The temple was partially destroyed at the time of the liberation war in 1971. Since then a lot of renovation has taken place to increase the beauty and facilities of this temple.

At present, the temple is one of the major worship places for the followers of the Hindu religion. They come in large numbers to this temple in every major worshipping period such as Kali Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Dol Jatra Saraswati Puja, etc. In exceptional moments, the site gets a gorgeous look with lighting and a huge number of people coming for prayer. Inside the main temple, you will find four identical structures of Lord Shiva. In the east of the main temple, you will see a statue of Goddess.

Dhakeshwari Jatiya Mandir is located in the old Dhaka of Bangladesh. You will find the temple right on the campus of BUET. The road is called Orphanage Road near the Bakshi Bazar area. You can visit the spot by rickshaw, bus, taxi, or other vehicles. It may cost about 20-30 TK from Shahabag or the University of Dhaka Campus. The temple is about 17.5 kilometers away from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and it may take 35 minutes to reach the temple if there is no traffic. Many bus services are available on the airport road that takes people to this spot.
