It was established in the year 1874 as a Madrasa as at that time the Islamic education was more popular and prevalent. The college was established through the Mohsin Fund formed by Haji Mohammad Mohsin. In the year 1967, the college was renamed to Haji Mohammad Mohsin College. The college is popularly named as Mohsin College. Since the establishment the college has played a very crucial role in the development of education sector in the Chittagong region.
Admission
The college intakes fresh students for HSC level every year after the publication of the SSC result. The college publishes its circular in the major dailies to inform students about admission.
The students have to collect admission form for the admission office and submit it before the deadline finishes.
The students are selected based on their result in the SSC. Only the selected candidates can get admitted. Their name is given on the notice board.

It provides higher secondary level education to the students. It operates under CEB or Chittagong Education Board, Bangladesh. It provides education in the field of Science, Arts or Humanities, and Business Studies. All the subjects determined by the education board are taught by the teachers.
