Jamdani Saree is an exclusive woman's garment product. It is very fashionable and highly demandable ladies' clothes in this subcontinent for women.

Jamdani Saree

Mainly made of cotton and silk in a special atmosphere. It is a handloom product. It is popular for its thinness and design. Muslin is its other name. Jamdani has a long history. The word Jamdani comes from the Persian language. Dhaka was the famous place to produce Muslin at the time of the Mughals.

Design The design is very important for a Jamdani Saree. Length of a Saree is 18 feet and height is 45 inches.  18 feet are divided into 3 parts. each part has 3 feet. They are:

1. First, 3 feet is Achol
2. Second 3 to 5 feet Body
3. And the remaining part is Kuchi

Cotton Cotton is the main factor for a Jamdani. Two types of cotton are used in this Saree. These are Suti and Silk. Weight if the cotton is called Bari (1kg=86 Bari). The quality of cotton is measured by count. A minimum of 80-count cotton is used for the jamdani Saree.

How to identify a Jamdani saree

Jamdani sarees are made of high-quality cotton and silk. Fabrics are very thin and soft. Manly minimum of 7 to 10 days is needed to prepare a Jamdani saree for two men if they work 8 hours daily. And a maximum of 3 months. There are 5 things need to check before buying a Jamdani sari. These are:

1. Is it handmade?
2. Is it pure cotton?
3. It's Design
4. Is it pure silk?
5. Is this from Narayanganj, Dhaka

There are several kinds of Jamdani Saree in the market. In India, it is produced by machine also.

Price

A genuine Jamdani saree will not cost less than $.250. The price depends on the design. Some Jamdani needs more the one month to make. So making cost comes here high. At present in Bangladesh, a Karigar has to be paid a minimum of $10 a day. So for 30 days, it comes to $500.00
