History and Background of Jatiyo Smriti Soudho Saver
Architect Sayed Mainul Hossain designed the monument. The plan for the memorial was initiated in the year 1972 after the liberation war. After the selection of the site for the memorial, a nationwide design competition was initiated in the year 1978. After the evaluation of 57 submissions, the design of Syed Mainul Hossain was approved. Main structure, artificial lake and other facilities were completed in the year 1982.
Structure of the Monument
The monument consists of seven isosceles triangular pyramid shaped structures where the middle one is the tallest. The highest point of the monument is 150 feet. There is an artificial lake around the monument which has enhanced the beauty of the spot. There are several mass graves in front of the main monument. The central monument is made of concrete and the other structures around the monument are made with red colored bricks. The compound of the monument is spread over an area of 84 acres of land. The monument contains helipad and parking facilities as well.

Transportation and Communication
For people who are from abroad or out of Dhaka can come to this tourist spot by air. They have to land at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. The distance from the airport to the monument is about 28.9 kilometers via Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
One can also go to Savar very easily by bus from any part of Bangladesh. If one choose highway, then he or she has to get down in the Nobinagar bus stop and then reach the monument. The monument is not so far from the bus stop.
There are many hotels and restaurants within 15 kilometers of Jatiyo Smriti Soudho where the tourists can stay. The most known five-star hotels within the 15 kilometers are Hotel Civic Inn, Hotel Milina, Richmond Hotel and Suites, Amazon Lilly Lake View Residence, and Grand Prince Hotel. All kinds of local and foreign foods such as Indian and Chinese foods are available in the restaurants.
