Rivers are Meghna, Sandwip and Hatiya channel are notable. The meaning of the place is Noa means New and Khal means Canal. Noakhali district is 165 Kilometers far from Dhaka city.

The district is well-connected wit Dhaka and Chittagong by bus and train. From Sayedabad bus stand it may take the 4-5 hour drive to Noakhali. Train start from Kamalapur railway station. There is no airport in the district. The nearest airport is in Chittagong.
