Shariatpur ( শরিয়তপুর ) is district under Dhaka Division. It is in the middle of Bangladesh. The area is 1181.53 SKM. The city town stands on the bank of the Mara Kirtinasha river Shariatpur district was established on 1 March 1984. It consists of 6 Upazilas, 5 municipalities, 64 Union Parishad, 45 wards, 93 mahallas, 1230 villages and 607 Mouzas. It is named after the prominent Islamic reformer Haji Shariatullah.
