Govt. Bangla college is situated on the northwest corner of Dhaka Megacity along the western side of Mirpur Darussalam Road on a land of 57 Bigha (16.18 Acre) in a din and bustle free natural atmosphere. The perspective of nomenclature: Many may wonder why this college has been named
Bangla College especially at a time when Bangla has become a medium of instruction in nearly all spheres of higher education. Though in the present context this name does not bear any significance, the scenario was quite different in the past.

Abul Kashem had established the college on 1 October 1962. He was an activist Bengali Language Movement. The main motto of the college was to promote the Bengali language in higher education.  It covers 19 acres of area. It is located in the northwest part of the capital on the western side of Darus Salam Road in Mirpur. The college campus provides a tranquil captivating environment.

The present principal is Dr. Makfur Rahman.The college is affiliated with the National University of Bangladesh. President of Bangladesh is the canceller of the institution. It has a rich library on its campus. At present, there are 32000 students are here. There are  15 departments in this college. They are Bengali, Political Science, Sociology, Accounting, Finance & Banking, Management, Marketing, Economics, Islamic Studies, Islamic History & Cultural, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, History, Philosophy and Social Welfare.
